Pride Sports League Dodgeball Rules

RULE I          PLAYING PROCEDURES

  1. Each match will be the best of 5 games.  A game is complete when all players are eliminated from the other team.

  2. Teams will play 2 matches each night, with a 30 minute time limit for each match.

  3. Play will be 6 on 6. A minimum of 6 is required to start the game. 7-8 players are allowed if both teams have extra players and agree.

  4. Play will be held inside the volleyball courts.

  5. Team may substitute between games.

  6. Game time is forfeit time, if your team is not there at your scheduled time you will forfeit.

  7. Team will switch ends of the court between every game.

RULE II          THE GAME

SEC. 1 Objective
The objective of dodgeball is to eliminate all players of the opposing team by throwing one of six game balls and hitting the opposing player below the shoulders on the fly.

SEC. 2 Starting a Game
SIX (6) balls evenly spread on the center line at the beginning of each game. It is a sprint to the balls once the play begins. Balls cannot be thrown past the throwing line marked by cones.
Each team member must start with one hand on their back wall. Play begins on the referees signal of “Go” .

SEC. 3 Eliminating the Opposing Players
A player is out if:

  • They throw a ball that is caught by the other team.  (If the ball does bounce off an opposing player and is then caught the thrower will then be out. This is true even if a different player catches the ball. However if the ball bounces off another ball, the ball is dead. ).

  • They get hit by a ball thrown by the other team below the shoulders. Players may use the ball to block; however, if the ball is knocked out of their hand while blocking, they will be out.

  • They cross the center line.

A player is not out if:

  • Their ball is caught off the wall or ceiling.

  • They get hit above the shoulders.

  • A player on their team catches the ball after it has hit them.

If a ball is caught, then one player from the team that caught the ball may re-enter play in the order that they were eliminated.

Eliminated players should leave the court quickly, so as to make it clear they have been hit.

SEC. 4 Out of Bounds
A ball that hit any wall or ceiling is considered dead and is not back in play until someone has picked up the balls and throws it at an opponent.

SEC. 5 Off-Sides
The center line is the off-sides line. If any part of your foot or body touches the center line, you will be declared out and thrown ball will be dead.

SEC. 6    Stall Count
No player can hold the ball for longer than 10 seconds. Penalty- roll the ball gently to the other team. The opposing team is responsible for calling the stall count. For example: Stall 1, Stall 2, Stall 3…Stall 5. Then at this point the player must roll the ball over or is out.

SEC. 7 Court Procedures
Players are expected to be honest and take themselves out when the time comes. Once a player is out, they must quickly leave the court stand in an area that makes it clear they are not in play. Do not leave the court during game play unless an injury occurs.

SEC. 8 Referees

For each match a team that is currently not playing a match will be assigned to referee that match.  At least two members of the assigned team must referee the match.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lining up the balls at the start of a game.  Making sure both teams are ready with hands on the wall and yelling “go”.

  • Each referee will watch the match and help call people out that may not have realized they were hit.

  • Keep track of time and switch to sudden death (see below) after 7 minutes.

  • Records wins and losses.

SEC 9. Time Control

If the game goes longer than 7 minutes, it will enter sudden death, where no eliminated players will be allowed to reenter the game regardless of whether a ball is caught.

Rule III. Sportsmanship

Pride Sports League reserves the right to remove players from the league that show extreme poor sportsmanship.
